Celebrating Our Indigenous Sisters
Today we celebrate our Indigenous sisters
who bring light and beauty to this world.
LeeAnne Bewasaya Shawanabineshii Stevens is an Anishinaabe artist, art therapist, social work student, mother, and knowledge and vision keeper from Neyaashiinigmiing, Ontario. She’s an amazing artist who draws on her emotions, wisdom and Indigenous traditions to create gorgeous drawings and paintings using various media, as well as detailed, richly coloured beadwork and regalia.
A devoted mother and grandmother, LeeAnne also dedicates herself to an annual water walk as Wendaajiwanong Bimoseyan Lead Water Walker and Vision Keeper. According to their Facebook group, “The Wendaajiwanong Bimoseyan Mother Water Walk is a means for us to connect with the Spirit of Water through language, prayer, mindfulness, gratitude and share in the creation of awareness…a way for Indigenous Peoples to act upon their roles and responsibilities as Anishinaabek. When we take part in this Water Walk it exemplifies the importance of cultivating all relations for health and well-being.”
LeeAnne can be found on Facebook and contacted at 647-410-2254 and bewasaya@outlook.com.
